Natae Daye, best known as Sauda Daye is a 22 year old free lance model born and raised in the city of Philadelphia.
What actually drew me to Miss Daye's work was her hair and her attitude ! First off, she's natural and if you've read any of my previous hair posts, you'd know how much I live for it. Second, she has a very bold cut and dope hair colour ! Everyone can't pull off a low cut but baby girl, it looks good. on. you. Lol but true fact, anyone who can pull off her hairstyle has what I call ultra beauty. Folk like Sauda are naturally beautiful, they couldn't be ugly if they wanted to because they don't have to rely on hair, make up and accessories to make them attractive. I'm not saying people with hair aren't beautiful but we all know how there's alot of people around who've become weave- independent and are insecure without their "crown".
The poise that she contains in her shots holds a certain power. Her look and stance is solid and dominating yet soft, feminine and very modelesque. Sauda has only been modeling for nine months but captures poses alot better than a large portion of beginner models. Heck, I thought she's been modeling for several years judging by her pictures. Lots of beginner/below average models can have that timidly awkward look, under powering the image that both the photographer and stylist have sought out. I should know, after all I used to be one of those awkward, timid models !
"I wouldn't consider myself a model,rather someone who
appreciates the beauty of photography. I've only been in
front of the flash a few times....but it is a wonderful feeling."
You said that you appreciate the beauty of photography; What inspired YOU to be that beauty captured behind the camera?
I stumbled across some photos by Dorothea Lange when I was in high school. The photos she took of displaced individuals (I can't remember what event led to the displacement), the way she showed emotion and art in her photos showed me that there's more to taking a picture than just making something look pretty. Raw emotion sometimes makes a photo what it is.
What's your height and weight ?
I'm 5'9" 139lbs and wear a size 6 dress.
Who are some of the photographer or models whose work you enjoy ?
Right now, Ricky Codio is one of my favorite photographers. Even though he's not really well known, his work speaks volumes. As far as models go, Chanel Iman is one of my favorites.
"I am Philadelphia born and raised, but waiting for the courage
to venture out on my own. I guess you could say
I'm a model, but I feel like the term is used too loosely."
Who are some of the photographers you've worked with ?
I've worked with Aaron Stallworth, Ricky Codio, Andre Boston and a few others.
What do you hope to accomplish with modeling ?
I eventually would like to perfect my craft but I'm not sure what direction I would like to take it.
"There are always people asking why do [modeling] if you get
nothing out of it - but what they fail to realize
is this is something that i love doing."
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I just chill with my family and write thoughts, poems or whatever comes to mind.
Do you have any advice for beginner/inspiring models ?
Honestly my one piece of advice to anyone who wants to break into any field would be: don't just think about it, make ways for it to become a reality.
Sauda Daye has a bold look on behind the camera yet is such a modest, humble person in real life. Humbleness can allow a person to learn more about their craft and ways to perfect it because they are more willing watch what goes on in their surroundings, hers being the model industry, and figure out exactly what they want to accomplish.
Sauda already hit the nail on head when she said modeling is more than making something look pretty. When one has already figured out that piece of information, they are more likely to exude the intended concept and capture the viewers eyes. To me, modeling is an art form as well as a movement. A model's job is to make the viewer interpret and feel the aura that they're instructed to produce. If that person is a print model for a fashion magazine, their job is to attract all attention to the ensemble. If he or she's posed as a pretty/handsome person dressed in nice clothes, they've already failed the approach. Modeling isn't about the look, it's about the concept.
"My inspiration is my mother...she passed away in 2009.
Shealways believed in me and trusted whatever d
ecisions I made in life"
